The Joy of Cake

Welcome to my world. My name is Cindy Sally. I’m the founder of The Joy of Cake, LLC, and I love to see you smile.

I started my cake journey in the USA in 2014 as a Wilton Method Instructor. It was one of the most beautiful phases in my life. I had so much fun and joy because every class was different and special, either with new people or with the old students. Every day had its own story. Then in 2018, the classes had to be ended because Wilton didn’t continue the program, but I’m forever grateful for all my experiences.

I was ready to start another journey with my cake world. I worked full-time in Bakery and only taught part-time for private classes. Then just a few weeks after I started this journey, something happened. I got a big car accident that could lose my life and two of my fur babies with a few seconds difference. Somebody with a high speed ran to the gas station without yielding. Her car was Chevy Tahoe, and my car was Ford Fiesta. It’s really like an elephant crushing an ant.

It’s a miracle that I’m safe and alive and two of my fur babies too, but I lost the ability and skills I had gained so many years in cake decorating. I didn’t tell anyone at that time, even my parents. I didn’t want to make them worry, although I cried almost every night in my sleep. My hands lost their grip. So many plates and glasses I dropped at home. You guys know that for cake decorators, it is important to have a steady hand, right?

My dreams were crushed. My days were Doctors’ appointments and Physical Therapist. Then one day, I sat in the basement. I had so many boxes that I had not opened yet since I moved to the new place. I had limitations in my movement because of my injuries. Then I opened one of the boxes. It had bundles of cards from my previous students that left comments for the cake decorating classes.

I realized I hadn’t read all the cards. They all gave amazing and beautiful comments; not even one had a bad one. I really learned a pearl of true wisdom, something that you gave with all your heart, would come back to you, even in a more powerful one.

So here’s the fact, I know I love cake decorating, and all the notes from my students affirm me more that I am very passionate about the cake world.

In every instance, I started practicing all of my homework from my physical therapist, especially to gain back the grip in my hands. After more than a month, I asked the Doctor a couple of times to give me a letter to allow me back to work again. But unfortunately, my workplace still didn’t allow me back to work because there were so many movement restrictions. Again, I kept patient and kept practicing until I got a letter from the Doctor who was willing to remove all the restrictions to go back to work.

Finally, I was back decorating cakes. People at my work didn’t know what happened with my hands. They hired me because I’m the best candidate and I had a very good reputation as a cake artist. I almost cried on day one when I held the spatula, and my hand shook like crazy when I tried to smooth the cake. I calmed myself and prayed, “Please help me, Lord…”, then I tried again and again and again. Every day little by little, I gained back my grip along with every smile and joy from the customers who were so happy with the cake I made for them.

Certainly, those experiences gave me the power to continue doing what I love.

There is always a blessing in disguise; that’s what my Mom always told me since my childhood. I’m so blessed that I gained back my skills and even better and more love in every work I did. I could come back because of you… yes, you… all my beautiful clients and students. Your trust, happiness, support, and smile in every cake I made for you make me keep pushing myself to be better and better.

Then the new journey starts. There is an old saying that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear..” and that is what happened to me in 2019. I met an amazing teacher Tuba Geckil, she is an Olympic winner in a cake world, and I’m so lucky to have an opportunity to learn from her. In the same year, also I had an opportunity to go to International Cake events in England and learn more about cakes from world-known cake artists from all around the world. So I’m super blessed and happy that I gained more skills. So now I can make more amazing cakes for you.

In 2021 The Joy of Cake, LLC is born. I’m following my passion, and I gave it the best of me in it and share it with you.

Cakes are celebrations in many ways. They are for newborn babies, birthdays, graduations, parties, love, retirement, and even celebrating someone already away. It’s a beautiful way to express everyone’s feelings and share the joy together or even for yourself. I’m honored to be the one you choose to make these special days more special.

The happiness of fulfilling my calling and seeing the joy in my clients’ and students’ eyes is the reason The Joy of Cake is born.
